Every year, approximately 1600 million tons of steel are made and used around the world.

It contains iron, carbon and small amounts of Sulphur, silicon, oxygen, and phosphorus.

Steel is cut, bent and shaped to manufacture various products like household appliances, fixtures, automotive components etc.

Steel fabrication is the process of bending, cutting and shaping the steel. Over the years, the process of steel fabrication has become more effective.

Why Steel is Used for Fabrication?

The various properties of steel like high durability, sufficient availability and diverse applications in industrial sectors have made it ideal for fabrication and construction for over a century.

Also, when compared to other materials, steel is less expensive and easier to manipulate.

Steel can be recycled and reprocessed easily without losing strength and integrity.

Steel Fabrication Process

  • Conceptualisation Stage

Before cutting the steel, the fabrication company works with the client to create a plan that will guide the rest of the process.

The company’s main goal is to fulfil the needs of the client and provide them with fabricated steel structures.

With the help of the requirements given by the client and tools like CAD programs, the steel fabrication company come up with a detailed strategy and pass it to their metalworkers in the workshop for further process.

  • The Processing Stage

After the planning is done, the actual work starts. The shop makes the use of a variety of tools and techniques for giving a desired shape to the steel.

Expert metalworkers use equipment that makes use of heat, pressure, and force at powerful levels enough to bend solid steel.

CAD calibrations are combined with CNC i.e. Computer Numerical Control equipment and precise cuts and bends are made at speeds suitable for the production of high-quality steel components.

  • Assembly and Finishing of the Processed Steel Structure

After the steel gets shaped into its required form, some pieces will be blasted and painted for providing the resistance to the elements.

For construction projects, the pieces of steel are welded at the shop and on-site before placing them in their new location.

Finally, the client will receive a steel structure ready to be applied to suit their original requirements.

For an exact steel structure, it is very important that the particular requirements for the steel structures should be mentioned clearly in the steel fabrication specification sheet.

Failure to do so will lead to risk factors along with extra expense in resolving queries.
